The drive from Capitola to Lake Tahoe spans approximately 350 km and takes about 4 hours under normal traffic conditions. You will head north on Highway 17, transition to I-880, and eventually merge onto I-80 East toward the Sierra Nevada mountains. This route takes you through the Sacramento Valley before climbing into the high alpine environment of the Tahoe Basin. It is a popular route for both summer hiking and winter skiing.
