Traveling from Tumwater to Yakima requires crossing the Cascade Range via US-12. This 200-kilometer route is one of the most scenic drives in Washington, passing through the White Pass ski area. The journey takes approximately 2.5 to 3 hours depending on weather conditions. You will transition from the lush forests of the west side to the arid, agricultural landscape of the Yakima Valley. Be prepared for winding mountain roads and potential snow in higher elevations.
Total Distance: 200 km driving distance; 160 km straight-line air distance.
Check WSDOT for White Pass chain requirements during winter.
July to September for clear mountain passes and harvest season in the valley.
